OM, KPSM & Landsrecherche encourage proper voting, not vote selling/buying in elections

Ahead of the August 19 snap Parliamentary Elections, the Prosecutor’s Office Sint Maarten OM SXM, the Police Force of St. Maarten and the National Detectives (Landsrecherche) urge all voters to participate in the democratic process responsibly. Anyone who has been approached with offers to sell their vote or anyone who knows of someone attempting to sell or buy votes is urged to report such to the KPSM anonymous tip line 9300.

The right to vote is a fundamental democratic privilege. Vote buying and selling are serious felonies as stated in Articles 2:44 and 2:45 of St. Maarten’s Criminal Code. These actions threaten the integrity of the  elections and undermine public trust in democratic institutions. Such actions pave the way for corruption, which can have lasting detrimental effects on our nation's growth and development.

OM SXM, KPSM, and Landsrecherche  call on every voter to exercise their right conscientiously, casting their votes based on genuine belief in the candidates and their platforms. Your vote should reflect your true convictions and the best interest of St. Maarten.

During this election period, let everyone should commit to maintaining respect and decency in  behavior, ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process. By rejecting bribery and corruption, voters and the wider community can safeguard the future of democracy and contribute to a prosperous and just society for all.
